I designed and illustrated a cover design for an autobiography about pro tennis player, Serena Williams. The concept for this design is not only visually appealing, but there is also a deeper meaning. Serena Williams is an amazing athlete. Her life and career have been all about breaking boundaries. She is not just one of the best female athletes or African American athletes, but one of the greatest athletes period. Her talent, persona, and attitude inspired me to focus this project on her.
My Process
I wanted to create a book jacket that was dynamic. Breaking the spine allowed me to create a cover that guides the reader's eye from the front to the back of the book. The background colors are meant to subtly reflect a tennis court with the dark green low on the cover. This project helped me to think outside the box to create a dynamic design that leads the eye around the entire book jacket.
