For AMT’s Additive Database, an online resource for manufacturers, I created more than 25 technical illustrations explaining how each additive manufacturing process works. The challenge was to make complex machinery easy to understand without sacrificing technical accuracy.
The Process
I led conversations with AMT’s data experts to decide what each illustration had to show and what could be left out. Together, we found the balance between simplifying each machine enough to be clear and keeping enough detail to be accurate.

The System
Every illustration uses the same cutaway enclosure, grid, and isometric angle, so readers can compare processes side by side and focus on what makes each one different.

The Details
Labeled callouts trace each key component, color highlights materials and energy sources, and a small legend lists compatible materials. Detail insets zoom in on processes too small to see.
